TAUTORO SCHOOL 110th HARI HURITAU
TAUTORO SCHOOL 110th HARI HURITAU
Today was the big day when all the old fellas came back home to Tautoro for the 110th hari huritau of the school. It all began with a lovely powhiri, led by two lovely teachers from Tautoro School, Whaea Chanella and Whaea Meri. Tautoro School was now going back in time, way back into 1906 when children used to get the cane for speaking Te Reo and other little things.
First speaker of the day was Matua Mitai followed by Matua Mitai was, Papa Joe and then Miss Simeon. Heaps of positive comments were coming through like it will never stopped, and the majority of the comments were from the kaumatua and kuia.
All students and teachers had to line up, to get ready and go to the library. Walking to the library, I was very nervous but happy at the same time because we were performing Kapa Haka and that is my favourite thing to do at school.
They were so happy, that we nearly made them cry, by performing all of the old school kapahaka, the kind of kapahaka that they used to do back in there time. One of the comments that the Kaumatua said was “I so miss coming back to Tautoro School all of you are just so beautiful”.
Kapahaka then had finally finished, as you could see most people were sweating, huffing and puffing but most of all proud. A huge thanks to all whanau and parents that had supported us with food and other stuff that you had supplied on the very lovely day.
All the Kaumatua and kuia present at the 110th hari huritau were all the old fellas that came to Tautoro School back in those days who were so amazed about what we learnt in the short amount of time.
